Jay. 22. Perpetual student and actual library cat. (Formerly) American studying in the UK.Mostly I cry about Harry Potter, Wolfstar, and sometimes old books.
all right. so. this is a Harry Potter AU, in rambly and abbreviated form.
this is a version of events where, on the morning of November 1st, 1981, the police are called to a house in Surrey.
when they arrive, a large man with a red face and a moustache is waiting for them, brandishing a baby.
to be more accurate: he is brandishing a basket. the basket contains a baby.
he tells the police that his wife found the basket on their doorstep that morning. “Gave her the shock of her life,” he says, with a chuckle that does not seem the least bit sincere.
the police officers have a lot of questions about this, but the man does not have any useful answers. his wife, he tells them, is not in any shape to be interviewed. “she’s been poorly,” he says, “and we’ve got a baby of our own to worry about, keeping us up at all hours.”
the baby in the basket seems to be about a year old. he is cheerful, seems healthy aside from a cut on his forehead, with a crooked sticking plaster on it. he has startlingly green eyes.
there is no identifying information in the basket, except for a torn scrap of paper with ‘his name is Harry’ on it in a delicate hand.
there is nothing else to be done, it seems. the officers take baby Harry, and leave.
one of them comes back a few days later for a follow-up interview with the woman who found the baby. she seems a little fragile, and her own baby, in the next room, keeps up a constant shrieking tantrum the whole time the officer is there. “I’m sorry,” the woman says, with a brittle smile. “this has all been a bit much. I recently lost my sister, you see.”

“The Pencilsword” is a comic strip by Toby Morris, an illustrator from New Zealand. His most recent comic, “On a Plate” hits hard at the heart of the issues of concerning wealth and privilege.
How many times have you heard the “I’ve never been handed anything on a platter” argument in regard to social security and other social benefits?
Toby wrecks this argument by showing how two children can grow up, be loved and supported, and yet still have two very different outcomes.
Make sure to follow all the way to the end for the powerful punchline. This comic is an increasingly sad reality for far too many of this nation’s children and families.

Emotions are Complex; they generally consist of several parts or different reactions happening at the same time
Emotions are Automatic: Emotions are involuntary, automatic responses to internal and external events.
Emotions Cannot Be Changed Directly: We can change the events that cause emotional experiences, but we cannot change the experiences directly. We cannot instruct ourselves to feel a particular emotion and then feel it. We cannot use willpower to stop an emotional experience even when we desperately want to.
Emotions Are Sudden, and They Rise and Fall: Emotions ordinarily occur suddenly, although the intensity of a particular emotion may build up slowly over time. They are also like waves in the sea because they rise and fall. Most emotions only last from seconds to minutes.
Emotions are Self-Perpetuating: Once an emotion starts, it keeps restarting itself. We might even save that “emotions love themselves.” This is because when emotions sensitize us to events associated with the emotions. Examples: When we are in a house at night alone and are afraid, every little sound seems like it may be someone breaking in. When we are in love, we see only the positive points of the person we love. Once we are jealous, every time our loved one looks at someone else, it is proof of betrayal.
Emotions have Components: These components are interrelated, and each component influences all others. Thus, although an emotion can be thought of as a complete and transactional systematic response to external and internal events, it can also be very helpful to examine each component separately. A very important take-home message here is that changing just one component can often change the entire emotional response.
Some Emotions are Universal. There are probably about 10-12 universal emotions (e.g. anger, disgust, fear, guilt, joy, jealousy, envy, sadness, shame, surprise, interest, love). People are built with the potential, the biological readiness, for these. Others are learned and are usually some combination of the basic emotions.
the donald trump animatronic at disneyland’s hall of presidents looks like they made an animatronic for hillary, went “oh fuck” and stretched a hastily-made donald trump skin over hillary’s facial structure
